Scenes from a mall. (Lloyd Center, Portland; closing soon)

It’s tempting to be snarky about the mall, but it was an institution in Portland for 60 years, a hangout for teens like my niece, as well as the developmentally disabled guys my brother cares for. The ice skating rink, where Tonya Harding learned to skate, provides entertainment for those eating at the fast food court. As my brother said, “Where else can you have such a nice view and cheap food at the same place in Portland?”
